Overview

2024's International Women's Day theme was to ‘Inspire Inclusion’, working to create a sense of belonging and safety for women of any race, age, ability, faith, and gender identity.

Women have historically been absent from the waste management industry. Even today, there remains a disparity between men and women in leadership roles across the industry. Barriers to women’s equal participation within the waste sector range from safety equipment designed for male bodies to negative attitudes towards women’s abilities to take on roles with more responsibility.

Our Approach

As the waste sector continues to modernise, it is crucial that women are included in decision-making processes at all levels. Myself and the team at Recorra put together this video to celebrate just some of the women working at our company. We asked nine women about the role of women at work, and this is what they had to say.

International Women’s Day is the prime opportunity to push for more inclusive environments for women within the waste sector and beyond.
